Green Guard environmental stewardship program

The Green Guard environmental stewardship program empowers Kansas City residents in distressed neighborhoods to access the benefits of natural areas in their neighborhood while gaining environmental literacy and addressing blight.

The program includes ten, 2-hour classes. The classes cover topics including fundamentals of environmental literacy, stewardship, water quality, and leadership and community organizing. Stewards will also receive hands-on training to develop skills to address maintenance issues and increase the beauty and pride in their neighborhood.

The pilot program launched at East High School in February 2016. We are currently looking to expand the program to two additional sites.
